In her speech at the Oxford Farming Conference the DEFRA Secretary, Lizz Truss MP, said:
'As soon as the new European commission started work, I went to see Commissioner Hogan to work to secure an urgent review the three crop rule and simpler greening requirements. I want farmers growing what people want to buy, not what Europe tells them to.
I also met the environment and food safety commissioners and called for decisions on issues like pesticides and GM cultivation to be made on scientific evidence alone.
Ultimately we want to see far more decisions to be taken in Britain for the benefit of British producers.'
